Even though we're moving towards an increasingly "paperless" society, it's actually quite convenient to be able to print out a hard copy. Reading from and referring to a printed page is often preferable to viewing on screen, phone or tablet. Maybe you're cooking or baking, so being able to glance at the printed page in the kitchen is safer than risking exposing your expensive iphone to the blender.

Inkjet and laser printing technology produces very acceptable high quality output. Handy if you like to print image from your phone for example, without the need to go to a photo kiosk or other digital print service. Maybe you've experienced buying a printer only to find that the ink or toner refills are often many times the price of the actual device!

Scanning is also a useful feature built into MFDs (multi function devices). Frustrating though if you don't understand the need to "scan for purpose". If you're emailing an attachment for onscreen viewing only, you won't want to be including a 20MB print resolution image file when a file size of only a few hundred KBs will do. Sounds technical we know, but when you understand what the scan and print settings on your device actually mean. Your printing and scanning life becomes a whole lot easier.
